Hoodies for the homeless offered through online Christmas campaign
The social enterprise Hoodies for the Homeless has partnered with Crisis to raise money for warm winter clothing for homeless people in London this winter.
A tech social enterprise start up has linked up with the charity Crisis for an online Christmas retail campaign offering ‘hoodies for the homeless’.
The hoodies are being sold via the social enterprise’s website for £35. For each hoodie bought another hoodie or other warm item of clothing worth £7.63 will be gifted to a homeless Londoner by Crisis on the customer’s behalf.
The rest of the money includes a further £1 donation to Crisis as well as production costs.
According to latest official figures there are 8,855 rough sleepers in the capital. The social enterprise, which launched this year, is aiming to sell the same number of hoodies this winter.
“Anyone who lives in the capital knows how acute the homeless issue is, highlighted even more during the festive season,” said Hoodies for he Homeless Founder Hector Hughes.
“Inspired to help in some small way, ‘Hoodies for the Homeless’ is a charitable way to buy a thoughtful gift and make a difference at the same time. The ‘buy one give one’ concept is especially popular this time of year.
“We’re also very grateful to Crisis for helping us reach London’s homeless community. It’s a timely reminder of their incredible work, not just at Christmas, but all-year round.”
Made to Order
Crisis’ Director of Fundraising Richard Lee added: “At Crisis, we are committed to ending homelessness for good. In a society like ours, it’s outrageous that anyone is still forced to sleep on the streets, especially when the temperatures start to drop and conditions can be deadly.
“This is an innovative scheme and we appreciate the support for people experiencing homelessness.”
The campaign is urging people to order a hoodie by 15 December to allow Crisis enough time to distribute it to the homeless before Christmas. Each hoodie is made to order and delivered to customers in early 2020.
