Friday 29th November is Black Friday – a day of shopping which originated in the US just after Thanksgiving and sees crowds flocking to the shops on the hunt for a pre-Christmas bargain. It’s come to the UK in a big way, and every year the tabloids seem to have more fun dramatising the chaos that ensues in shops.

But while it’s definitely a good time to maximise your Christmas shopping budget if you have the patience for the crowds, there are also opportunities for charities looking for the tools they need to operate more efficiently and do more with less.

Deals are now appearing earlier and earlier as retailers compete to meet their Black Friday targets. With many of them being online-only,  shoving your way through the stampedes or camping out for the whole week is not obligatory.

Black Friday is a particularly good time to look for hardware, gadgets and laptops at knock-down prices. Here’s where to go for some of the best tech deals.

Charity Digital Exchange

Charity Digital Exchange means eligible charities can get useful software and tools from popular vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe, often for next to nothing. There is a mix of discounts and donated products for which charities just pay a small admin fee. Deals on a wide range of tools and services are available all year round, and it’s worth signing up to get notified of new offers or vendors.

There are also occasional bargains on kit such as laptops, Apple iMacs and iPads, but you have to be quick to catch them – they sell out very (and we mean VERY) fast.

Sign up to also be in the know about Black Friday goings-on – for example:

Avast security are offering £25 of Amazon vouchers per twenty five subscriptions as part of a Black Friday deal on Charity Digital Exchange. Avast’s award-winning core security services are favoured by over 435 million users and come with free remote IT control.

The Black Friday Charity Digital Mail offer includes free migration and 3 months’ free email sends for new users. Charities who register on Black Friday will have the opportunity to send an unlimited amount of emails during three months from the 1st of December 2019 until the 29th of February 2020.

10 free nonprofit licenses for Microsoft 365 are now available to charities. These include Word, Excel and Enterprise Mobility Suite.
