Celebrities including the actor Martin Freeman are starring in a Stand Up to Cancer film aimed at urging people to take part in fundraising activity for the Cancer UK and Channel 4 backed campaign.

The film features Freeman as well as Celia Imrie, Tom Felton, Noel Clarke, Neil Morrissey, Nina Sosanya and Adrian Scarborough involved in and promoting  fundraising events.

During the one minute film they urge people to “fundraise, donate and save lives” under the strapline “Cancer changes lives…so do we.”

It features Freeman researching fundraising activity with the camera cutting to one celebrity after another involved in donation ideas. This includes Game of Thrones actor Dempsie and TV star Sosanya involved in boxing, while Harry Potter film series actor Felton scales a climbing wall.

Imrie said: “I’ve experienced the devastation cancer inflicts first hand. Sadly, so many of us have seen a family member or friend affected by this unforgiving disease.”

Clarke added: “Cancer rips loved ones away from their friends and family and destroys so many lives. The pioneering research Stand Up To Cancer funds will make a real difference for people with the disease and that’s why I’m proud to support the campaign. Cancer is no match for us when we stand up together.”

Fundraising pack

As well as being promoted via social media, including Youtube, the film is also available on the Stand Up to Cancer website. It also has a cinema release.

Online promotion includes a prominent ‘Get Involved’ button offering fundraising ideas for supporters, including a fundraising pack.

This could include dressing up or arranging a quiz night. Last month Stand Up to Cancer launched a digital fundraising quiz for people to use via Amazon Alexa. This is hosted by the comedian Joe Lycett.
