Instagram partners with charities to reduce student stress
Mental health charity CALM and young people’s support charity The Mix have come together to battle exam stress with a new Instagram ‘zine.
Together they have launched a new Instagram magazine giving students advise and support around mental health during stressful exam seasons.
The online magazine, called #GramFam, features celebrities and influencers including Jameela Jamila from the Good Place and Love Island’s Dr Alex George.
The Mix is a free and confidential multi-channel service for people under 25. Young people can access the services including articles and video content online, phone and email support, peer to peer and counselling services.
CALM is a is leading a movement against male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. The charity runs a free and confidential helpline and web chat, and also operates a support after suicide programme to support bereaved individuals.
Exam stress skyrocketing
Instagram has said it found the use of the hashtag #examstress on the platform had risen 640% between March and May 2018 – coinciding directly with exam season.
The Mix CEO Chris Martin said: “Year on year we see more young people struggling with stress during exam season, which is why our partnership with Instagram, Calm and all the fantastic contributors to #GramFam is so relevant.
The Mix said it had seen usage of its service increase among young people by 114% on this time last year.
Chris Martin also said: “This issue of the Instazine will reach far and wide with tips from new supporters such as Jameela Jamil and KissFM’s Tom Green, enabling us to support anyone struggling under the pressure of exams as well as letting them know that The Mix is there for them whatever life throws their way.”
“We’re delighted to bring our #GramFam campaign with The Mix and Instagram to life with this #GramFam Live event, centred around supporting young people through the difficult revision and exam period,” Calm boss Simon Gunning added.
“The reaction to this campaign has been great, both from our audience and from the people who have taken part so far such as Dr Alex, Lewis Capaldi, DJ Neev, MOB Kitchen and Calm ambassadors Romesh Ranganathan and Loyle Carner.
“We’re looking forward to #GramFam Live delivering entertaining and funny content with an important message underpinned throughout.”
