The charity Together for Short Lives has announced details of a week of fundraising activity later this year in support of children’s hospices.

Children’s Hospice Week will take place between 17 and 23 of June and is themed around the slogan ‘moments that matter’. This focuses on the role children’s hospices play in creating moments that matter for families looking after seriously ill children.

Social media activity during the week will use the hashtag #ChildrensHospiceWeek and supporters are urged to donate via Together for Short Lives’ website.

Ahead of the week of activity the charity is looking to gain celebrity endorsement for promotional material. It is also prepping case studies for video and photo content.

Round the clock care

There are around 49,000 children in the UK living with a life limiting or life-threatening condition, many of whom need round the clock care.

In the UK there are 54 children’s hospices services providing clinical, practical and emotional support as well as respite care.

“Children’s Hospice Week is the UK’s only awareness and fundraising week for these remarkable children and families and the amazing children’s hospice services that support them,” states a Together for Short Lives statement.

“Many families are fearful of seeking help from their local children’s hospice, as they worry they are dark and gloomy places that only provide end of life care. That’s why Children’s Hospice Week aims to show that children’s hospice services are not scary, they’re about coming together to build memories and helping children and families to make moments that matter.

“As part of the campaign, families will give an insight into their moments that matter, from difficult moments to beautiful family moments spent together at their Children’s Hospice Service.”
