A Christmas fun run organised by a hospice has won a national online campaigning award.

The Princess Alice Hospice’s Santa fun run beat 170 other charity campaigns to win online fundraising platform JustGiving’s 2018 best Christmas campaign award.

Judges were impressed with the sense of community the campaigning generated, which included live updates and the use of eye-catching artwork.

The event involved Santas taking part in 5,000k fun runs in three parks across London and Surrey.

Princess Alice Hospice Marketing Officer Cengiz Mehmet, who led the campaign, said: “I think the real power of the campaign came alive when people on their fundraising pages talked about why they were taking part in the fun run and who they were running in memory of; it created a sense of community around the run.”

“We also used the JustGiving campaign page on social media and email, to encourage people to continue fundraising during and after the campaign.”

The price includes a £4,000 bespoke landing page for a future campaign and a one of donation of £500 to the charity.

The hospice’s JustGiving page has helped raise more than £39,000 of its target of £60,000. The top fundraiser pledged £2,815 and one runner raised nearly 20 times their original target.

Pyjama day campaign being planned

Being planned by the hospice is online fundraising for a pyjama day in support of its Care Through the Night campaign.

Princess Alice Hospice has been in operation for 30 years and provides specialist end of life care to people across Surrey, south west London and Middlesex. At any one time its staff look after more than 800 people.

Around three quarters of its income is from fundraising, retail, donations and legacies and £9.9m is needed each year to provide its services.

“We were impressed by their ability to foster a sense of community amongst the supporters and participants of the Santa Run, and the stunning campaign imagery used to showcase and celebrate their cause,” added Keith Williams, General Manager, UK & Ireland at JustGiving.
