Charity Digital and NCSC launch charity webinar series

This month Charity Digital is kicking off the first of its brand new series of free educational webinars for charities with a talk on cyber security from NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre).

Charity Digital News, which is run by Charity Digital, is kicking off the first of its new series of free educational charity webinars with a session on cyber security by the Government’s NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre).

The webinar, running on Thursday 24th January, will explain the types of risks that charities will face from cyber attacks in 2019, and some simple proactive steps to protect themselves.

The NCSC is part of GCHQ and is the Government organisation established to help protect the UK from major cyber security incidents and provide cyber security advice to citizens and organisations.

“With the threat from cybercrime increasing, it is vital that all organisations – including charities – understand the potential impact of a cyber attack and take proactive steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim,” said an NCSC spokesperson.

The webinar takes place over a lunch hour and is free for charities to attend.


Be prepared

This morning, NCSC published a blog regarding Windows 7, which only a year from today will stop receiving support and updates from Microsoft.

Running outdated and unsupported software is one of the big security holes that many charities face – the infamous WannaCry ransomware attack, which cost the NHS over £92m in 2017, came about in part because attackers were exploiting the unsupported Windows XP.

NCSC is keen to make sure that the charity sector is prepared well in advance for threats like this that could potentially freeze an organisation’s day to day operations and cause enormous reputational and monetary damage.


Get ahead with digital in 2019

The webinar by NCSC marks the first in the series of regular webinars aimed at helping charities gain confidence in many aspects of digital such as managing data, collaboration, digital fundraising, optimising your online presence and becoming a digital charity leader.
