Breast Cancer Care announces Facebook live event stream
The charity hopes to boost donations raised through the event by broadcasting live via Facebook.
Breast Cancer Care is to live stream its annual fundraising fashion and entertainment event via social media for the first time.
The event takes place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on October 4 and will be streamed via Facebook live.
The livestream will use video production platform Grabyo. It is hoped the live streaming will boost money raised through the event by utilising Facebook’s donate button.
The event is hosted by presenter and journalist Claudia Winkleman and journalist Victoria Derbyshire, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
Alexandra Burke among celebrities involved
It features a fashion show involving more than 30 models, all of whom have had a breast cancer diagnosis. Also appearing at the event will be the charity’s celebrity ambassador, Alexandra Burke, who will be performing during the day long event’s evening show.
“By live streaming to social media, Breast Cancer Care looks to increase the reach of its event and engage more potential donors through the use of engaging live video,” says a statement from Grabyo.
The statement adds: “ Social media users are consistently watching more live video for longer on such platforms. Live social video brings communities together; audiences can interact with one other while watching to share their thoughts and discuss the video they are watching, which creates a more memorable experience, leading to longer watch times and increased participation.”
In January Breast Cancer Care netted £655,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to develop an end-of-treatment support app, called The Breast Cancer Care App (BECCA). The charity hopes this will be used by 36,000 users by 2020.
