Free grants launched for youth coding events
UK youth charities can apply for €500 grants to fund an event to encourage 8-24 year-olds to develop coding skills.
Meet and Code, the charitable initiative that offers youth organisations the opportunity to host funded coding skills-building events, has launched in the UK with the help of its official UK partner, Tech Trust.
Tech Trust is offering a €500 grant to help youth-based charities to produce a coding and programming event, with funding applications now open.
Meet and Code was developed by German organisation HDS (Haus des Stiftens) and financed by national software giant SAP to encourage young people to engage in a new digital skill and bring their ideas to life. It launched elsewhere in Europe in 2017, with 600 events held over 280 cities and 30,000 participants so far.
The initiative supports a number of wide-ranging events that inspire and encourage young people to learn more about the art and skill of coding, in whatever form charities decide.
Organisations with beneficiaries between the ages of 8-24, or those looking to partner with youth-based charities, may find this a perfect opportunity to expand the services they have on offer, said HDS and Tech Trust in a joint statement. Applications simply require a document that proves charitable status, have a high-resolution logo image, and a compelling event proposal.
Selected organisations will receive €500 to fund an event with no limit on attendee numbers, provided that the proposed event is free-of-charge. Scheduled events will take place during the 14-day EU Code Week event, between 6th-21st October 2018.
The deadline for submission of applications is 15th September 2018, but earlier applications have greater chance of being approved, the funding bodies said.
After the events are held, representatives from five successful applicant organisations will be invited for an all-expenses paid trip to SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. These organisations will also be entered to win €2,500 as prize money for hosting such a great event.
