YouTube stars join forces to support sparkly campaign from Alzheimer’s Research UK

Some of the biggest stars on YouTube have joined forces to fight dementia by supporting a glittery new social media campaign from Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Mark Ferris, Emma Blackery, Jayde Pierce, Niki and Sammy Albon, Terroll Lewis and many more have helped launch the charity’s Glitterbrows campaign and are calling on their millions of followers to get behind them to help defeat a condition that recently overtook heart disease as the UK’s leading cause of death.

The charity hopes December will become Glitterbrows Month. As such, people are being encouraged to glitter their eyebrows – both male and female – to boost vital funds for dementia research, and raise awareness of the condition.

People can add some seasonal sparkle by buying a Glitterbrows kit, or sourcing their own sparkly make-up, and use their bold new look to fundraise; glitter days at work and sponsored challenges to wear Glitterbrows for a day, week or month are just two fun ways the public can help defeat dementia with Alzheimer’s Research UK this festive season.

To celebrate the campaign launch, Alzheimer’s Research UK teamed up with photographer Linda Blacker to create a series of portraits of YouTubers sporting sparkly brows. Within moments of the campaign going live across social media at 6pm on December 1st, the hashtag #glitterbrows was trending on Twitter. Linda and the charity are also offering some top YouTuber-related prizes for the best #glitterbrows selfie, including limited campaign prints and a t-shirt signed by participating influencers. Lucy Squance, Director of Supporter-led fundraising at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “Christmas can be a tough time of year for those with a family member living with dementia. We wanted to launch a new fundraising campaign that was simple to do and gave people the chance to have fun while supporting vital dementia research.

“We’re extremely excited to have teamed up with the YouTube community and Linda Blacker to launch Glitterbrows, and hope people across the country get behind the campaign to help power life-changing research.”

Campaign photographer Linda Blacker said: “I lost my nan to dementia with Lewy bodies two years ago, so I’ve seen first-hand how devastating dementia can be to the person living with it, and their loved-ones.

“Working with Alzheimer’s Research UK and YouTubers to bring this campaign to life has been a privilege, and I look forward to seeing people wearing Glitterbrows to support this worthiest of causes.”
