Middleton Foundation offers charities new ways to develop income

The Middleton Foundation, a registered charity that provides grants and other resources to the charity sector to fund innovative projects, has launched a new fundraising project.

Charity Escapes is a new and innovative fundraising platform that forms part of the Foundation’s wider efforts to support the charity sector in growing sustainable repeat income. The initiative is a digitally focused idea connecting donors and charities outside of traditional forms of fundraising and donations.

Income is generated by selling holiday accommodation which has been donated by holiday home owners where up to 100% of the proceeds are donated to the owner’s preferred charity. This is a low-cost but high-value donation, especially if the accommodation would otherwise be unoccupied.

For charities that own holiday property or are already regularly gifted accommodation (e.g. hotel accommodation or time in holiday homes), Charity Escapes will provide much wider national and international exposure and can improve reach, occupancy and therefore increase income.

The Foundation is actively looking to work in partnership with any UK based charities. It anticipates being able to connect charities to a number of new donors. The Foundation is already working with causes as diverse as community development, disability, education, theatre, mental health, hospices, national heritage, volunteering, family, children and youth, addiction, homelessness, international aid, and arts.

It asks that partners:

  • Work with them on developing their offer
  • Help with promotion through social media and other marketing channels.
  • Help improve the monitoring of new income generated, and numbers of new supporters brought on board over 12 months.

In return, charities can expect to benefit from new donors, connections and income. Additionally, charities will benefit from PR opportunities associated with being involved with this exciting new fundraising idea.
