CARE online challenge asks: #WhatWouldYouTake if forced to flee your home?

In a bid to help the on-going Syrian refugee crisis, CARE’s new social media campaign, #WhatWouldYouTake, asks the public: if you had to leave your home behind, what would you take?

Question mark in journal

CARE is a non-profit organisation aiming to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities across the globe.

What’s it all about?

The campaign raises awareness of the dilemma that many refugees face when they are forced to leave their homes and are only given one moment to decide what to take with them.

As CARE explains on its website:

Many of the one million Syrian refugees CARE has helped in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey tell us they fled their homes as tanks and bombs began hitting their street.

Running for their lives, many had just a moment to grab a precious object on the way out – medicine, family documents, a child’s teddy bear.”

How does it work?

The challenge encourages people to think about what they would take if “war, or any disaster” forced them from their home, and share their answer on social media.

If you want to take part in the challenge, there are three simple steps to follow:

  1. Answer the question: “What would you take if you had to choose a single object before fleeing your home forever?”
  2. Post a photo or video of yourself with your object on your social media. Explain briefly why you would take it. Include #WhatWouldYouTake in your post and tag CARE.
  3. CHALLENGE: Tag 5 people and challenge them to complete steps 1, 2 and 3 and make a donation to Syrian refugee relief.
