Harnessing technology makes donations free
Technology is consistently changing the way in which people give to charity. The social enterprise TheGivingMachine uses affiliate marketing and lets users generate a sales commission by purchasing from an online shop. 75% of these commissions then goes to charities.
According to the Guardian, there are many positives with this method. The shopper can choose where to donate and the opportunity to engage is massive.
In 2012, over 17,000 new givers joined TheGivingMachine and helped generate more than 220,000 donations that year. The social enterprise hopes to exceed a million free donations generated by the end of 2013.
