The extra two hours of light are being put to good use!

Social donation platform Givey has shown its support for SolarAid, a UK charity which aims to provide safe light to over 1 million homes in Africa.

SolarAid has been shortlisted to win GBP500,000 in the Google Global Impact Challenge, voting for which closes on 31st May. SolarAid provides solar lamps to African families who have no electricity. Many currently rely on toxic kerosene to light their houses, but this can be dangerous and uses up 20% of the household income.

Givey has dedicated its landing page to SolarAid donations; just GBP5.00 buys one lamp, which lasts five years and provides two hours of extra light each night.
