The London marathon took place on Sunday 21st April, representing a record high for mobile donations to JustGiving, receiving GBP300,000.

It was the first time that mobile donations overtook desktop donations; on the day JustGiving received 58% of its traffic through mobile devices compared to 42% from desktop computers. Additionally, more than 12,000 text donations have been made through this marathon, bringing the total amount raised through Vodafone’s JustTextGiving service up to GBP10m since its launch in 2011.

Anna Kuriakose, Head of Product at JustGiving said, “Just looking at the number of smartphones in the crowds on Sunday brought home just how important mobile has become in mass-participation events. Nowhere is this truer than in the field of giving, where we can see that mobile is driving unprecedented levels of engagement and generosity. The past year has seen a huge leap in the number of our users reaching for their smartphones to show their generosity – to give wherever they are and whenever they choose.”

to the total amount raised since JG began mobile giving in 2011.
