Last chance to apply for funds in the Christmas Challenge

The deadline for applications to the Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign is fast approaching. Charities must apply by Friday 7th July at 5pm.

The Big Give is encouraging charities to apply because it has significantly greater Champion funds so more charities will have the opportunity to participate. It is also celebrating the success of improvements to the model last year, which came about as a result of feedback from charities.

Who are the Champions?

The Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest online match-funding campaign which helps UK-registered charities raise funds for their causes, having raised over £78m since it launched in 2008.

Donations to participating charities are generously matched by Big Give ‘Champions’ (Trusts, Foundations, Philanthropists and Corporates who support the initiative) and charities’ major donors. This year The Coles-Medlock Foundation, The Four Acre Trust, The Hospital Saturday Fund join the Champions for the first time. They will provide funding alongside The Reed Foundation, The Childhood Trust, Ethiopiaid, Candis, People’s Postcode Lottery and others.

How has the campaign changed

  • The Big Give is celebrating its 10th anniversary and to mark the occasion, the Christmas Challenge is set to be on an even bigger scale this year with even more Champion funding available than in recent years.
  • Match funds are ring-fenced for each participating charity so that they are not competing with each other for funds. Read more here.
  • The campaign runs continuously over 7 days with no pauses so it’s much more simple for donors to understand.
  • The 2017 campaign will launch on #GivingTuesday again this year meaning more PR buzz and attention for participating charities by joining the national movement of giving.
