Samsung Pay finally launched in the UK

Samsung has finally launched Samsung Pay, its contactless mobile payment solution in the UK.

The contactless payment system allows users of recent Samsung Galaxy S smartphones to pay for goods and services by tapping their handsets on contactless terminals.

The rollout comes nearly two years after its chief rival Apple Pay rolled out, and a full year after Android Pay was introduced.

At launch, only Santander, Nationwide and MBNA customers can use the payment solution, although media reports suggest HSBC, First Direct, M&S Bank and American Express will be added very soon.

The introduction is further evidence of the need for charities to embrace contactless payment technology. Earlier this year it was announced that a quarter of all card payments were made using contactless technology – a figure that is expected to rise rapidly this year.

A number of charities have been trialling contactless payment collection methods over recent months as the technology becomes more mainstream.
