TweetDeck, the well-liked Twitter management tool, will no longer be available as a standalone Windows app from 15 April.
Twitter said the move has been made to improve log-in procedures for users and to ensure Windows users can enjoy a seamless login experience. The move means that once a user is logged into Twitter they do not have to separately login to TweetDeck. This change has been made with immediate effect.
“Now, when you move from TweetDeck to Twitter websites, or from these websites to TweetDeck, you’ll be automatically logged in — making it even easier to move between the tools you use daily,” commented Amy Zima, product manager at Twitter in a blog post.
Access through a browser
The Mac and Chrome apps of TweetDeck will continue to be available, while Windows users can continue to use TweetDeck through a browser by visiting tweetdeck.com.
Addressing the concerns that Twitter is not doing much on the development side for apps such as TweetDeck, the company claims in the blog post that it has been “working on infrastructure projects like these to ensure that it has a stable foundation to continue improving TweetDeck in the future.”
Zima added: “We’ve been working on infrastructure projects like this to ensure we have a stable foundation to continue improving TweetDeck in the future. Over the past year, we’ve shipped features such as TweetDeck Teams, group Direct Messages, and a confirmation step before Tweeting, as well as new search filters to make it easier to surface Vines, GIFs, Periscopes, and older content.”
