This Christmas, children’s homeless charity Shelter has launched a nationwide campaign to help 100,000 homeless children in the UK, harnessing the power of social media to get people wearing slippers to work.
Helping the homeless
Using the hashtag #slippersforshelter, the charity is asking for donations of £3 in order to provide housing for some of the nation’s most poverty-stricken children. Many will be forced to spend Christmas in an emergency bed and breakfast or hostel, cramped into a cold, damp room, with no space for a tree, or even an oven to cook Christmas dinner.
A number of large corporations have signed up to the campaign, with Nationwide employees across the country flashing their footwear to help homeless families this Christmas.
Bryce Glover, Nationwide’s divisional director of Corporate Affairs, commented: “Our staff’s enthusiasm for Slippers for Shelter is as much to do with supporting a good cause this Christmas, as it is with the joy of padding around the office in comfy slippers the whole day.’’

Leveraging social media
On Friday 4th December, businesses across the country can support Slippers for Shelter and help tackle homelessness in three simple steps:
- Wear your slippers into work;
- Donate just £3 to Shelter; and
- Take a Slipper selfie to share on social media with #slippersforshelter
