A large donation by global music star Taylor Swift to an online giving campaign for a young girl battling leukaemia has prompted the crowdfunding site GoFundMe to raise its donation limit from $15,000 to $50,000.
The online crowdfunding site’s cap of $15,000 as the largest single donation it could process meant that for a $50,000 donation Swift had to make three separate $15,000 contributions with an additional $5,000 final payment.
But now the site has raised the threshold to accommodate a single $50,000 donation.
“Taylor Swift’s donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform,” explained Rob Solomon the chief executive of GoFundMe’s.
Swift’s donation amounted to 70% of the funds for Naomi Oakes, a young girl suffering from leukaemia, and ensured that the crowdfunding initiative exceeded its $30,000 initial target.
Including gifts to other campaigns, Taylor Swift has given more than any other donor in GoFundMe history. Solomon added, “What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving.”
