Cricketers from Elton Cricket Club raised more than £3,000 for Bury Cancer Support Centre by cycling for 24 hours, covering the equivalent distance of Bury to Russia.
Sixteen players took part in the challenge; the past and present players collectively clocked up over 3,000 miles on the spinning bikes.
The event which lasted 24 hours was streamed online but more than 100 people came along to watch the cricketers’ cycle.
During the event, there were raffles and a cake sale. Businesses were also able to sponsor a two hour session and the total money raised was £3,030.
One of the participants, Chris Murray said: “We finished on Saturday evening with… a large sense of accomplishment. After the event, people who hadn’t taken part but had watched our efforts were clamouring to sign up for the next time we take on some form of challenge for a local charity.”
Murray added that the ride was inspired by the £10,000 weekly costs for the local cancer support centre.
