In February, Age UK launched an online campaign, #NotByMySelfie, which encourages people to post pictures of themselves with an older person in their lives on social media and donate £3 via text to help address the loneliness many older people experience.
The initiative is part of its wider ‘No One Should Have No One’ campaign.
Marianne Hewitt, head of brand at Age UK, said: “Through our#NotByMySelfie we want to connect with the public in a fun and creative way to help raise awareness of the fact that so many people are facing later life alone.
“It’s clearly similar to the #icebucketchallenge and #nomakeupselfie idea but it’s much more about championing the issue than raising funds.”
