Instagram videos have been used to make the world’s first ever Insta-film. The short documentary has been made in honour of girls affected by child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation
Freedom Is… uses hundreds of Instagram submissions from the UK, the US, Ethiopia and Zambia where people contributed their thoughts on what freedom means to them. The 2-minute video is designed to inform viewers about the reality of these harmful practices, ahead of the world’s first Girl Summit, which takes place in London on July 22.
International development secretary Justine Greening said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many people coming together to show their support for girls. There are too many girls around the world who are being denied the freedom to control their bodies and their futures. The Girl Summit is helping to drive momentum towards this unique opportunity that we have to end harmful practices such as FGM and child marriage within a generation.”
