Since its launch in 2009, Virgin Money Giving has helped over 9,000 charities raise more than £250 million.
Donations through Virgin Money Giving have risen by over 11% year-on-year. It says that, unlike other online giving platforms, it only charges charities the minimum amount needed to run the site.
Jo Barnett, Executive Director at Virgin Money Giving said: “It has been a fantastic achievement by our fundraisers to hit that £1/4 billion landmark. We only launched in 2009 and are still a growing service, so to hit that level already is a great achievement”.
eBay has proved to be one of the more effective ways to engage donors online and raise funds. While a lot of the money raised comes from the sale of goods, successful charities have also managed to establish a donor base that allows them to raise ongoing funds.
