This summer, Britain on Foot is challenging the UK to walk the combined distance of the circumference of the earth, or 25,000 miles, in just 80 days. Those taking part are encouraged to discover, walk, declare and share online.
Those taking part can measure their walk using the walk4life iPhone app, a pedometer, by completing a pre-measured walk available on the website or measuring their walk with OS getamap. They are then encouraged to share their experience through social media channels.
GO Outdoors stores throughout the UK are supporting the challenege by hosting a number of free devents, or Basecamps, throughout summer.
GO Outdoors Manchester store manager Simon Lee said: “We know all about the British enthusiasm for walking. That’s why we’re hosting these events to urge as many customers and charity fundraisers to find out more about enjoying the challenge of walking this summer. We hope all the events will offer just the right balance of advice and inspiration for novices and enthusiasts alike. Whether you can make one of the 40 events or not, we’d encourage all walkers to declare whatever miles they walk this summer online, and help us reach the combined total.”
Charities believe corporate fundraising is a key growth area. But recent research by the IoF has revealed that just 7% of charities with a corporate fundraising programme feel that it is “fully developed”. With this in mind, Virgin Money Giving is hosting a series of free live events between 5th and 7th October to help charities grow their corporate fundraising.
