Localgiving.com, a primary UK website for small, local charities and community groups, has announced the Grow Your Tenner 2013 campaign, which aims to turn £500,000 from the Cabinet Office into over £1 million for grass roots charities across England.
From 10 am on October 15, until the £500,000 pot has all been allocated, eligible charities in England on the Localgiving.com platform will see donations up to £10 doubled.
Localgiving.com will also double monthly donations up to £10 a month for six months, adding an extra £60 to the total received by the charity. Single donations will be doubled pound-for-pound up to £10 each. Gift Aid adds even more, turning a single £10 donation into £22.50.
Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd MP commented: “Localgiving.com is a great example of how technology can connect people with local causes they really care about. This is why we are proud to be match funding the 2013 campaign and turn donations of up to £500,000 into over £1 million for grass roots charities across England.”
Localgiving.com’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Marcelle Speller, OBE, also commented: “Using match funds to double donations is a proven way to motivate giving. People can immediately see the benefits that even a small donation can have when they know it’s being doubled.”
This is Localgiving.com’s third match fund in 2013 and follows a series of successful campaigns in 2012. Localgiving.com has already used match funds to boost donations to charities on the platform by over £4 million. The extra money a match campaign can generate for a small local charity can often mean the difference between survival and closure.
