GlobalGiving UK, a charity which lets people choose where they donate money, has won a prestigious internet award.
It recently fought off tough competition to win the ‘Doing Good Online’ honour at the Nominet Internet Awards. It has raised over GBP2.5 min for 1,000 projects worldwide, most of which are in the developing world, helping grassroots organisations run schools and orphanages and helping survivors of natural disasters.
Chief Executive Eleanor Harrison said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this accolade. We are a small team and work hard to provide our small global charity partners with opportunities to access funding, volunteers and new skills through training. This recognition proves what can be achieved with good will, a detailed understanding of smaller charities, open source technology, and a lot of enthusiasm. ”
“GlobalGiving.co.uk has more than 500,000 unique visitors every year and is an important tool for donors and small charities alike. We name-check donors online, celebrating the impact of their generous donation. I know that Valerie donated to help mothers give their kids safe drinking water in Ghana today. Even a small contribution makes a massive difference to small, local projects.”
