OneCentCall is a microdonations service which allows mobile users to give to charity every time they send a text message or make a call. Users can decide on the amount given; whether it be one penny for each text or a set amount, such as GBP5.00 every month. Users can select the charity they wish to pledge to and the donation amount will appear on their mobile phone bill. Currently, the UK is available on Vodafone, O2, Virgin Mobile and Three.
The platform was created to “service charities in the 21st century” and utilises the fact that mobile phones are used widely across the globe. It simplifies the process, making donating part of user’s everyday lives. It is beneficial to charities as it is a free service, it provides transparency to the administrative process and cuts fundraising costs.
