Nationwide Building Society’s has launched a new initiative this month, ‘The Big Local,’ which will allow members to vote online for charities which they would like to receive funding.
Three nominated charities from different UK regions will be chosen each month by Nationwide. They will each be awarded GBP200.00 and members will then be able to visit the new ‘Big Local’ website and vote for which they would most like to receive a further GBP5,000. On Nationwide’s Facebook page, users will be able to vote for their favourite charities and share their decision across the site, potentially generating more support.
Stephen Uden, Head of Citizenship at Nationwide, commented: “The Big Local website allows members to vote for one of three member-nominated local charities, providing information about what each of the charities do and giving members the chance to monitor each charity’s progress. It is a fantastic way for our members to get involved and tell us exactly where our funding, volunteering and fundraising efforts should be focused – after all, our members know their communities better than anyone else.”
