The report also demonstrated an increase of 11% in online giving in 2012, particularly with disaster recovery such as Hurricane Sandy. In addition, online fundraising represented 7% of all charitable donations in 2012. The sector which has seen the most drastic increase in online fundraising is education and public organisations; a growth of over 17%.
For 2013, charities are encouraged to focus on donor retention, and innovative ways to encourage donor support. Organisations should make the most of technology to ensure that its websites are on the same level as its competitors. Clever use of email marketing and Facebook apps should also be administrated to improve donor communication.
