The Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge launched on Thursday 6th December. It is a process of fundraising by which a charity raises a match fund from a donor, which is then supported by a donation from the Reed Foundation, Big Gives major sponsor.
Last year the launch was tarnished by a system collapse due to the high level of demand, meaning that charities lost out on valuable donations. Thursday’s launch saw a drastic GBP 4 million raised in just two hours due to the ease and simplicity of the online platform. Managing director of Big Give, Helen Cable, said they were conscious of not repeating the errors of the past: “We spent all year trying to combat the problems of the last year.”
