The blood cancer charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is at the forefront of technological developments in fundraising, launching the new “creative and innovative” platform called Pledgeit which strives to make donating to charity fun.
Users are invited to challenge friends to activities or dares, from the difficult to the daft, such as running a marathon or eating a certain number of crackers in one minute. People make pledges which are donated directly to the charity upon completion of the task. It is available through Facebook, allowing users to share the activity online with their friends. This consequently raises awareness of the cause and persuades other users to veer away from the traditional means of fundraising.
